Today the Department of Awesome Parenting salutes devoted Canadian dad Keith Anderson who loves his son Kai’s drawings so much that he’s been having them recreated as tattoos on his own skin, one new drawing every year. The tradition began seven years ago when his son was four.
Canadian photographer Chance Faulkner documented Anderson’s touching living tribute to his son’s creativity in a beautiful photo essay.
“The first one was the daisy- I had it tattooed when he was in kindergarten. Then we went back and did his name and the house from when he was 4. When he was 6 we did the seahorse, and 7 was the maple leaf with the C for Canada. 8 was the stained glass, which is one of my favourites; it was his own abstract idea. The 9 year old one we skipped because he wanted to change the drawing a little bit.”
“No one I know has ever heard of tattooing original kid art before, and it’s a lot of fun. We will keep going until he doesn’t want to do it anymore.” said Anderson.
